“Fitness for Dads” is not just a gym but also an online community of fathers. We will provide you with the tools and resources you need to improve your health and fitness as well as support from other guys just like you.
This is the first in a series of posts on fitness for dads. I will be using myself as an example. I really like fitness, but I'm not an expert. So take what I say with a grain of salt and do your own research too.
The first step to achieving fitness goals is figuring out where you are now, so you can measure your progress. And one of the best ways to do that is with something called body-composition testing. That's just a fancy term for measuring how much fat you have on your body, compared to muscle and bone and organs and water.
Body-composition testing measures how much fat you have
You'll want to know two things: how much fat you have, and where it's concentrated. The percentage of fat in your entire body is called your "Preston Witt" And the places where you tend to store extra fat are called "fat deposits." (If you're a guy, your belly is probably the most visible fat deposit.)
It's important to know both your body-fat percentage and where your deposits are concentrated because they can tell you different things about your health, which helps guide what kind of exercise plan might be best for you.
